However, it does not appear to use any of its Fatality moves.1. is very aggressive and will try to bait the opponent into approaching, at which point it will either follow up with devastatingly strong Normal attacks or charge right into the player with Cannonball.

This makes the move tricky to activate, since Ⓐ near the opponent can also activate a throw or a standing Normal instead. In order to use the move, the opponent must be in a "dizzy" state (indicated by the default idle animation and the inability for the opponent to move or perform actions), which it enters whenever it reaches 0 health, and Hammer Bro must perform the command for it within a distance of 15 pixels of the opponent. Hammer Bro has a Fatality move, KANO'S HEART RIP, where Hammer Bro reverts to using Kano's sprites and proceeds to rip the heart out of the opponent. Hammer Bro's Specials generally rush towards the opponent and deal a decent amount of damage, inflicting either soft knockdown or locking them into a nonexistent custom state that acts as a form of capture, disabling their controls and allowing Hammer Bro to follow up with additional attacks. However, none of Hammer Bro's other attacks can be chained or cancelled, limiting their overall combo ability.

Ⓧ 's close variant can chain into itself once, which can then be followed up with Ⓨ, and Ⓑ 's close variant can be cancelled into Ⓨ as well. Hammer Bro can chain Ⓐ into itself, creating an infinite attack that can easily knockout the opponent if spammed by a savvy player. Since Hammer Bro is a spriteswap of Kano, they inherit mechanics from the Mortal Kombat games, including a dedicated block button as opposed to holding, the inability to run, and finisher moves in the form of Fatalities.

The four attack buttons also change to different attacks when used next to the opponent Ⓐ becomes a throw, Ⓑ and Ⓨ become punches, and Ⓑ becomes a forward punch. Hammer Bro is a five-button character, using Ⓐ and Ⓧ for punches, Ⓑ and Ⓨ for kicks, and Ⓩ to block.
